Pixar's 'Day and Night' (2010)

The short animation Day and Night is a great example of using two contrasting characters to tell one story. The blending into each of the characters' lives of the action is especially effective and the unique spilt-screen rather than the usual rectangular split with a line down the middle.
This animation is a great reference if we go down the two contrasting characters route to show the war.
